Three simple steps

1

Talk to us about your plans

We discuss what the business will do, who will own it and your goals, and recommend a structure.

2

We prepare and lodge

We collect director and shareholder details, check everyone has a director ID, and lodge the registration with ASIC.

3

You're ready to trade

We register the ABN, TFN and GST as needed, and explain your ongoing ASIC and ATO obligations.

Before you register

Every director needs a director ID before they are appointed — apply through the Australian Business Registry Services (ABRS). A proprietary company also needs at least one director who ordinarily lives in Australia, at least one shareholder, and an Australian registered office address.

Details we'll need

  • Proposed company name
  • Each director's director ID
  • Directors' and shareholders' full details
  • Registered office address
  • Principal place of business
  • Number and class of shares
  • Expected annual turnover (for GST)
  • Whether you'll have employees

Frequently asked questions

Should I use a company or stay a sole trader?

It depends on your income, risk, plans to grow and family situation. A company can offer limited liability and a 25% tax rate for base rate entities, but has more compliance. We'll walk you through the trade-offs.

Do directors need a director ID?

Yes. Every director must have a director ID before being appointed. You apply through the Australian Business Registry Services (ABRS).

Can a non-resident be a director?

Yes, but a proprietary company must have at least one director who ordinarily resides in Australia.

Do I need to register for GST?

You must register for GST if your business's GST turnover is $75,000 or more, and taxi or rideshare drivers must register regardless of turnover. We'll check this when we set you up.

What ongoing costs does a company have?

Each year there is an ASIC annual review fee and the company must lodge its own tax return. We'll explain all ongoing obligations before you decide.
